Austin, Texas: A Success Story

Austin, Texas has 2,000,000 Mexican free-tailed bats living under Congress Bridge, providing enormous benefits to the Homeowners through mosquito prevention, Farmers through pesticide mitigation, and City through tourism spectacles.

As with all bats, there was a needless misinformation and fear campaign almost leading to their extinction, until one man changed it all: Dr. Merlin Tuttle. In the 1980s, Dr. Tuttle Saved the Bats, and demonstrated their importance to all residents of Austin, who continue to Appreciate Bats.

Today, the City of Austin is enormously grateful to Dr. Tuttle, and honour him with "Merlin Tuttle Day" every August 26th.

Bats are useful and harmless, yet needlessly persecuted. We need them, and they need us.
